The thing you have to remember he said is I live in a country where can opener is a job description. One benefit to short term memory loss is you’re usually there before you know it. And of course re-gifting is somehow less of an issue. … Ah friend, you’ve heard me say it before, sadly it’s still true. Words are not my first language. … Yes, that is quite true. However, I would also suggest that when you have been hit by a hammer, all your problems start to look like nails. … Well, apparently today is mostly about being as horizontal as possible, and as cheerful about it as possible. Okay, I’ll play. In the meantime I have been unsuccessfully trying to avoid this little couplet that’s been rolling around my head and expanding to fill available space. Usually means there’s a song coming, never one I’m trying to write but one that comes unbidden, often when I feel least like writing. Like now. The deal I make is if it sticks around long enough I write it down. In the meantime it goes to a cheery melody, and the words seem to be; when you’re livin’ in a sad town I try not to poke at these things too much before they’re fully formed, and the first stuff often doesn’t make it to the final version, but it seems that the non-sad singer is singing to the citizens of the sad town. I wonder what he has to say. Let you know when I find out. And now a nap. I’ve been asked for the words for this so many times that I figured I should put them here. The thoughts were collected from many people over the years, I feel honoured that folks seem to get something from this particular version of a thing we all seem to think but sometimes have trouble voicing. So, with thanks… These Are the TimesWhat if these are the times, what if these are the memories I should hold against myself What if the choices we make come to nothing, what if the chances we take are too few What if these are the times… What if all that we are is to anger, what if all that we do is to die What if these are the times… I will make of each moment a movement, I will take of my time every day These are the times, these are the memories I should hold against myself Today is the day we get Not tomorrow Not yesterday Only today. So what if that Was the last thing You ever said To me? When you’re trying to hear something you have to be really quiet yourself because when you’re busy talking you don’t hear anything at all and that is a thing that some people forget The thing to remember she said is that the soul is silent. If it speaks in words it is the mind. |
