On Working

kbsitepicscene003Hey friend, got a minute?  Thought I’d drop you a small note, wondering how you’ve been doing.  Have you had any time to yourself, or is it all on the go?  I’ve been thinking about the time we spend, and how we spend it.  More specifically, I’ve come to understand something over the last little while, been reminded of it again today.  I’ve seen it before in my own life and in others, can happen to anyone, really.  Goes like this–I know I need a break so I take a break.  Except while I’m on said break I keep thinking about the work I’m in the middle of doing, so I don’t really get a break at all.  I also feel guilty that I’m not working, so if I need a change of pace I concentrate on that for a while.  None of it brings anything close to what you might consider time off, of course.  And if it goes on it can mean that you literally don’t get a break for months, sometimes more.  I’ve spoken to more than one person who has had it go on for years.  It’s not good for all kinds of obvious reasons.  Especially health.  So I guess it’s good that I caught it.  Although don’t ask me when the last time was that I took anything like a couple of days that didn’t involve some aspect of working.  I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like the answer.

No, I’m really sure.

You?

Maybe it’s time we both did something about it.
