Last night I was invited to watch my young nephew sing in a huge children’s choir. Just slightly less than five hundred voices. And another choir the same size the night before. Apparently the event has been going on for twenty-three years, and they’ve had something like twenty-thousand kids sing in it. One thing that was particularly notable was how clearly you could understand the words they were singing, and the fact that the kids actually seemed to be enjoying themselves. Oh, and when the show was over you heard the sound of five hundred kids talking excitedly all at once, and their thousand or more family and friends who had come to see them doing the same. Quite a noise. But the show was delightful. And I’m beginning to think there’s a choir event every week in this town. Or near enough.
